Satyananda Yoga Classes

The classes typically include:

  • Asanas (postures) using the physical body to bring tranquillity to the mind and body. They can assist with developing flexibility,in building muscle strength and endurance and inner strength;
  • Pranayama (breath techniques) to improve breathing, work on the energy body, balancing and expanding the vital force (prana);
  • Yoga Nidra a systematic and enjoyable deep relaxation practice;
  • Meditation practices to focus, stabilise and calm the mind.

These practices are taught in a systematic way, allowing you to gradually develop flexibility and strength in your body at the same time as focusing and settling your mind. Mantra (subtle sound vibration) and course/class themes that deepen your understanding are also included.

Many people come to yoga with the goal of feeling fitter, more flexible, more energetic, and happier, or to feel at peace. Often the initial reasons for starting yoga practice lose importance. As you move deeper, yoga can change your perspective in unexpected ways; it can enhance your experience of life.

Yoga Therapy

Individual assessment and treatment

Yoga therapy is an inherently holistic approach, assisting the whole individual rather than focusing on just the condition - simultaneously working with the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

I sustained a shoulder injury in 2008 and had several cortisone injections without effect; surgery was the next option. Instead I went to Jeni who provided me with a therapeutic yoga program. Within 6 months of consistent practice I was pain free with full movement in my shoulder and yoga is now an integral part of my life and defines the person I have become.

Whilst yoga practice in general has health benefits, yoga therapy involves employing a variety of individualised yoga techniques aimed at improving a health issue, managing a chronic condition (e.g. chronic pain, arthritis), or to ease a natural process, such as menopause. Among the yogic tools used therapeutically are asana (physical postures), pranayama (breath work), meditation, mindfulness, relaxation, and lifestyle and dietary advice.

Yoga therapy is provided as one-to-one consultation, in a similar way to many other modalities of health and well-being such as massage therapy, physiotherapy and often in consultation with your other health care provider.

Qualifications

Prenatal Yoga

& Yoga for Women's Health

These classes are designed specifically for women's health and well being; with emphasis on the special needs of pregnant women in all three trimesters.

Prenatal Yoga

& Yoga for Women's Health

Jeni runs a weekly pre-natal & women’s health yoga class every Thursday in association with the Traralgon Yoga Studio at Innersense Wellbeing. Classes start at 4:30pm finishing at 5:45pm and the cost is $15 per class. Please call Jeni on 0412 616 631 to confirm your attendance.

Each class includes yoga postures (asanas), as well as yogic breathing
practices (pranayama) and the nourishing practice of Yoga Nidra and/or
meditation. By connecting with the cycles of life (moon cycle,
pregnancy, seasons & stages of life) women can enjoy more energy,
clearer mind and deeper emotional understanding. The yoga practices can be helpful in managing stress and anxiety, as well as balancing the physical and mental energies.

The classes allow women to support the development and strengthening of their body, mind, and spirit during and after pregnancy; and enhance the connection with their growing baby. The practices positively impact on the quality of pregnancy and birth experience.

I came to Jeni with one goal in mind — motherhood. I had a firm belief that preparing my mind and body through the practice of yoga could help me in achieving successful conception, pregnancy and birth. I was right — with Jeni’s knowledge, support and encouragement I not only had a beautiful pregnancy but a beautiful birth.

There is a beginning body of research evidence that a prenatal yoga program provides benefits during pregnancy, giving birth, and on birth outcomes. This includes improvements in psychological domains during pregnancy and birth (e.g. quality of life and self-efficacy), for physical and pain measures during birthing (e.g. pain and discomfort), and on birth variables (e.g. birth weight and number of preterm births) (see Curtis, Weinrib & Katz, 2012; Motha, in Lee & Attwood, 2013; Mayo Clinic).

Whilst the general Satyananda classes provide adaptations for pregnant women, prenatal yoga classes allow you to meet other pregnant women who can relate with you as you experience the wonder of the life growing within you and the transition of becoming a mother.
